The local church is God's "Plan A" for meeting the spiritual, relational, and missional needs of the community.  During Jesus' ministry, He talked more about money than any other topic.  There can be only one Lord of our lives and God is unwilling to be second place.  God will not ignore anything that takes the place of His Lordship in our lives.  Our money spending habits define what we value more than anything we say.  We cannot grow to maturity as believers if we don't deal with our value of money and give Him Lordship in our lives.

The Bible teaches on two main types of giving:  Tithes and Offerings.  A tithe simply means a tenth.  The Bible teaches us that God is the provider of all that we have.  We must not perceive that we generate our wealth strictly through our own power independent from God.  We are to bring to Him the first tenth of all we earn to humbly acknowledge God's provision for us.  God promises to bless us if we are faithful with our tithes.  This is so important to God that He encourages us to test Him to know for sure.

The other type of giving is offerings.  Offerings are gifts over and above the tithe.  God does not need our money, either tithes or offerings.  He is interested in our heart attitude and faith.  Believers experience a connection to God when they choose to give generously from their own heart in the same manner that Jesus gave selflessly.

Pray to God acknowledging Him as the Lord of your life and the source of all provision for your needs.  Examine each income source and give Him ten percent.  Be open to God's leading you to give any additional offerings.  Bring your tithes and offerings to give during the weekend service or give in support of other necessary ministries that are intentionally reaching lost people and moving them to full life in Jesus spiritually, missionally, and relationally.  Worship and praise God for all He has given to you.
